(taken from huh) Legendary musician and “multi-media innovator” Brian Eno has announced that he will be helping patients of the Montefiore Hospital in Hove, East Sussex, England, by creating a “serene atmosphere” using soothing light and sound installations. The £35 million hospital is the first to incorporate Eno’s installations, which aim to enhance the hospital’s “three dimensional, all-embracing means of treating patients”, in its architectural design. In the reception area Eno has placed a piece entitled “77 Million Paintings for Montefiore,” which uses light and “generative music” - a sound which constantly changes and never repeats. The second piece is situated in a downstairs relaxation space available to patients and visitors and is called “Quiet Room for Montefiore.”
Speaking about the development, architects IBI Nightingale said: “Creating a healing environment isn’t only about correct surgical procedures and the right technology but also about making an atmosphere where the patients feel able to relax enough to clearly think through their options, and to properly take part in the healing process themselves.”
not sure why this hasnt been a focus in the past, but its some good news none the less. design is everything.
